The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland is one of the most exciting contemporary gardens to be developed in the last century, a magical landscape created from a unique idea.
The Duchess of Northumberland's vision was to create a beautiful public space accessible to everyone; a garden for contemplation, fun, inspiration and education. The Alnwick Garden was officially opened in October 2002 by its patron HRH the Prince of Wales, as the first phase of development was complete. The Garden is now halfway to completion and features spectacular water displays, wonderful gardens and one of the largest tree houses in the world.

About the castle..

The magnificent Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, the first being Windsor Castle, and has been the home of the Percy’s, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309.
The earliest mention of Alnwick Castle in the history books appears soon after 1096 when Yves de Vescy became baron of Alnwick and erected the earliest parts of the Castle.
The Castle was first restored by the 1st Lord Percy of Alnwick in the early 1300's and portions of this restoration remain today, including the Abbot's Tower, the Middle Gateway and the Constable's Tower.

About the riding centre..

Established in 1974, Slate Hall Riding Centre offer lessons, treks, and beach rides.
Open every day and welcomes beginners, novice and experienced riders.
They have a selection of horses and ponies and Paula our experienced instructor will decide which horse/pony best suits your riding style.
Beach rides are only for experienced riders who can canter.
We also offer a combination ride which consists of a lesson followed by a ride.
